Event Details

Everyone is invited to a free talk by Natural Resource Economist Ernie Niemi about the economic impacts of climate change in Oregon.

There's a gaping hole in what most Oregonians know and do about climate change. Most Oregonians readily recognize the direct threats from climate change—the increasing frequency and intensity of heatwaves, wildfires, flooding, etc.—and take appropriate steps to avoid them. They find places to stay cool during a heat wave, for example. Recent research, though, shows Oregonians know little about and aren't taking steps to avoid the economic costs from climate change. These costs materialize as climate change reduces incomes, increases the costs of living, and degrades economic well-being.   This talk will focus on the costs for Oregon's children, elderly, and households.

Ernie Niemi is President of Natural Resource Economics and a member of the non-partisan Forum on Oregon Climate Change Economics (FORCE), a team of economic researchers and practitioners who are working to describe the costs climate change imposes on Oregonians.

This free event is co-sponsored by Great Old Broads for Wilderness-- Oregon—Willamette Valley Broadband.
